1. There is no provision for students wishing to appear for both the exams at different centers i.e Paper -1 be Computer based and Paper -2 being Pen and Paper based

Since Paper-2 is only in offline mode, a student who is appearing for both the papers , paper 1 being online mode and paper 2 being offline mode will only get such centers that have facility for both the modes of examination. For example: Test centers for this could be PATNA: PEN & PAPER BASED and COMPUTER BASED. Kindly refer to appendix 2 of information bulletin. Two different roll no and separate admit cards cannot be issued to a candidate to appear at different centres for paper 1 and 2 separately.

2. What is the Eligibility for private candidates?

Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE), only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2017 or 2018; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2018 are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) - 2018. Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2014 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2016 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main)- 2015. Candidates who appeared in class 12th/equivalent Qualifying Examinations in 2012, did not pass in 2012, but passed in 2013 are also not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2015. This criteria is applicable for both private and regular candidates. Private candidate can fill ‘xxx’ against the school name column.

3. What is Eligibility for Diploma Students in JEE-Main 2015?

Yes, to appear in JEE (Advanced) a diploma holder can apply in JEE Main 2015 but his rank and score for JEE (Main) will not be declared as diploma holders cannot apply for admission in NITs and CFTIs through JEE (Main) channel.

4. What are HSC vocational courses?

Different states can have different HSC vocational courses, so students of different states will have to verify it from their particular state.

5. How will an NRI or a foreign student enter his/her mobile number?

Such candidates can enter the mobile number against the field of landline number.

6. Will a candidate have a choice to change the mode of examination?

Yes, but a candidate can change mode of examination from pen and paper examination to computer based examination only.

7. While paying the fee, what a candidate can do in case of failed transaction?

If the payment status of online transaction (by credit/debit card) is not communicated by payment gateway in real time then fee payment is not completed. After reconciliation if the amount is found debited, the same will be processed at payment gateway for refund. Candidates are required to pay the fees again either through online transaction or by e- challan and to download the acknowledgment page . Your amount will be refunded back within 7 to 10 days. Use internet explorer 6 or above.

8. Whether the Hindi Medium paper will come in both the languages?

Yes, Hindi medium paper will be bilingual in English and Hindi medium.

9. Why are there no sample papers for offline exams?

The mock test available on website is for all the candidates who have opted either for pen and paper based mode or computer based mode. However it is also for practice purpose and to give candidates look and feel of the Computer Based Examination (CBE). Questions from the previous years are uploaded on JEE (Main) website.

10. What is Computer Based Examination (Online mode)?

It is a Computer Based Exam which will be conducted using the Local Area Network (LAN) to make it safe, secure and un-interrupted.

11. What are the advantages in opting for Computer Based Examination?

a) The candidate can review or re-answer any question at any point of time during the examination. b) The candidate can change the option of the answer during the exam duration and it is one of the most important feature of computer based examination c) The candidate also has the option to mark any answer for review at later stage during the examination. d) There will be a panel on computer screen showing all the question nos in different colour scheme which will indicate which are the questions answered, left un answered and marked for review e) Candidate gets the flexibility in choosing the exam date of his/her choice as per his/her convenience. f) It will make Candidate feel confident on use of Information technology. g) You can also save upto Rs. 500 in Exam fees compare to Pen/Paper mode.

12. How to apply and what is the last date of applying for computer based exam?

Candidates can apply through JEE(Main) website. The last date is 02nd January 2018 as per the declared schedule.

The date of examination is 08 April 2018.

15. When a candidate can select the date of computer based examination ?

At the time of filling the form for JEE(Main) itself.

16. What will be the time of computer based examination?

The exam will be twice a day i.e. in two shifts. First shift from 09.30 - 12.30 Hours [IST] and Second shift (if required) from 14.00 - 17.00 Hours [IST]

17. When will a candidate has to report at exam centre ?

30 minutes before the exam time

18. What computer knowledge is required to appear for Computer Based Examination ?

The candidate need to know only how to use computer mouse. That is at the most required

19. Can the date of exam once selected be changed, if required?

20. What will be the medium of Computer Based Examination?

All Examination Centre Cities English and Hindi Medium Examination Centre Cities in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli English, Hindi and Gujarati Examination Centre Cities in Maharashtra English, Hindi, Marathi and Urdu Note: The Candidate can also switch medium as many times as he/she wants during the examination.

21. Can a candidate get an examination center of his/her choice?

The Candidate can opt for city of his/her choice as per list of computer based exam cities at the time of filling application form only.

22. How secure is the computer based examination?

It is very secure with zero error possibility as human intervention is minimal.

23. Who is eligible for JEE Main 2018?

For JEE(Main)-2018, Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2016 or2017; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2017 are eligible to appear in JEE(Main)- 2018. Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2015 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2018 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) – 2018. Candidates who appeared in class 12th/equivalent qualifying Examinations in 2015, did not pass in 2015, but passed in 2016 are also not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2018.

24. If a candidate has passed in 2016/2017 and has appeared for improvement in 2018, what he will fill in the academic details section

Select the year of passing class 12th as 2016/2017 and enter the roll number, name of the board and other details of 2015/2016 in the application form. Select ‘yes’ in the column – appearing for improvement examination. The roll number of improvement examination 2018 may be filled in the month of March at the time of downloading admit cards of JEE (Main).

25. What is the State of Eligibility for the Improvement Candidates/Institution Abroad/NIOS?

If a candidate has passed Class 12th/ Equivalent qualifying examination from one state but appeared for improvement from another state, his/her state code of eligibility will be from where he/she has originally passed Class 12th/ Equivalent qualifying examination and not the state from where he/she has appeared for improvement. Indian nationals passing the equivalent qualifying examination from an institution abroad, the State of Eligibility will be determined on the basis of permanent address in India as given in the Passport of the candidate. Candidate passed/appearing class 12th from NIOS should select the State of Eligibility according to the state in which the study Centre is located. The State of Eligibility is not applicable for the candidates belonging to Nepal /Bhutan/Foreign/OCI/PIO.

26. In case photograph is not having name and date, would the form be rejected?

Name of the candidate and date on which the photograph is taken is to be mentioned on the photograph, but in case uploaded photograph does not have name and date, the form will not be rejected and no correction is required in such a case and he/she will be issued admit card for appearing in JEE (Main) – 2018 as usual.

27. Is thumb impression mandatory while filling JEE(Main) - 2018 form?

There is no need to upload thumb impression in online application of JEE(Main)-2018.

28. How will an NRI or a foreign student enter his/her mobile number?

Such candidates should enter the mobile number of his/her relative residing in India.

29. What is Eligibility for Diploma Students in JEE-Main 2018?

32. If continuous time out or file not found error occurs while filling online application of JEE(Main)-2018?

Use Mozilla Firefox/Internet Explorer (above 9.0) and good internet connection while filling online Application Form. In case of continuous times out clear cookies and history of the browser and fill in off-peak hours.

33. While paying the fee, what a candidate can do in case of failed transaction?

If the payment status of online transaction (by credit/debit card) is not communicated by payment gateway in real time then fee payment is not completed and candidate will not be able to download acknowledgement page. In this case, the candidates are required to pay the fees again either through online transaction or by e- challan and download the acknowledgement page. Your amount of failed transaction of credit/debit card will be refunded back within 7 to 10 days to card account. In case, fee payment is made through e-challan and the fee is not updated on the website, the candidate should contact the concerned bank/branch for updation of fee. Even if the challan is not updated by the bank till last date, such candidates should send the copy of paid e-challan through e-mail on jeemain@nic.in.
